The Brief for this project was to design a a piece of furniture that encourages creativity. I decided to design a seating that catered to as many ways of working as possible. I found that in my research, there are many things that can encourage creativity. These include Collaboration, Relaxation, Solitude and detaching form work. After looking at previous examples of office breakout furniture and different ways people work I designed a flexible seat for these different situations. The sliding panel on the seat allows for people who prefer to work alone or in groups and has a ledge on the inside for devices such as tablets or smartphones to sit. The seat is also in a lounge position for relaxing in. The high back to the seat creates an enclosed space when the sliding panel is closed but can be complacently hidden inside the back of the seat. The chair is designed to used in small groups and rotate on the base to either make or break groups.
