In this module the brief was to design a piece of outdoor furniture for the Wicker area in Sheffield. The area is currently undergoing development and there are some parts of it that have already been regenerated. A lot of research was required to determine what was needed in the area and how to compliment what was already being done to the area. I decided to design a bus shelter to be placed around the Wicker as the current bus shelters where old and very generic. The main influence for the shelter was the font used for the numbers known as Impact. The font was designed in by Geoffrey Lee for the Stephenson Blake foundry in Sheffield in 1965. The design would be made from perforated stainless steel manufactured in Sheffield with a glass roof and glass sandwiched between the stainless steel to create a more sealed shelter. The font would be perforated and indented into the stainless steel sheets to give them the look of being pressed into the shelter like the old letterpress style that was used at the Stephenson Blake foundry.
